Planet Friendly Father’s Day Gifts

fathers day gifts

Tree Chic might be your favourite store, or his; either way, a planet friendly Father’s Day gift will let him know how much you care!

Chances are if conscious shopping is your jam, it’s his jam too. If he’s concerned about the ethics of trade, that’s probably played a role in how you make buying choices.

You want to give dad something special this Father’s Day. Your dad, adopted, step or other father figure is someone to celebrate! Not everyone gets the chance to play an important role in the life of a child, and not every child gets an amazing, supportive and loving father.

He’s someone who cared for you, loved watching you grow, spent time learning with you about the things that excited you… and you want to say ‘Thank you’.

Other than my own unique papa, I’m lucky enough to be celebrating the father of my two girls.

They couldn’t have asked for a better dad. He makes the meals, watches Wild Kratts with them while I sew, and takes them to Bearly Used Books on weekends. He does most of the school prep too, since he’s a morning person and I’m DEFINITELY not. And these are just some his super hero qualities.

Now it’s your turn. Tell me who you’re celebrating and how this June 16th?

Here are some Planet Friendly gift ideas to make him feel great!

3 Steps to Baby Soft Skin Immediately

Baby Soft Skin Secrets

I have a confession, I’ve been thinking about those lines on my face again… I recently tried a free sample of a cleanser/toner/serum/eye cream/night cream combo and felt disappointed that it didn’t live up to the promise of results in less than 24 hours. If you’re like me and get tempted by promises of immediate results and dramatically younger skin I have good news: there is one easy way to enjoy baby soft skin today. I mean, right now.

The simple, guaranteed results steps go like this: have or borrow a baby, touch baby’s skin, be reminded that you are not a baby and that’s a good thing! Borrowing a baby is easy by the way. As someone who is lucky enough to have my own I can assure you there is a foolproof way to earn access to those chubby soft cheeks today. You can probably think of someone like a niece, brother-in-law, friend, cousin etc. with a young family who would be ever so grateful if you offer to read to, tickle or play in the yard with their kids while they load the dishwasher, have a shower, grocery shop (alone, hallelujah!), write a blog post… you get the point.

Celebrate Aging

Aging with grace and joy

So why is it so good that you yourself are no longer as young as you once were? Well, can you imagine being an actual baby? Having so little control and such poor motor skills? Also, I distinctly remember not enjoying my ‘youth’ as much as I now suppose I should have. It’s so easy to get caught up in striving and focus on the negative but as we grow, face challenges and learn new skills it generally gets easier to live with awareness in the moment. Personally, in spite of my episodes of self-conscious uncertainty, I’ve been leaning into my creativity, intuition and joy (helped exponentially by my adorable, little balls of sunshine). The best thing is remembering that those fine lines come from the smiles and laughter of all the silly years and the deliriously happy times that have befallen us.

Disclaimer: promotional/product links follow. Tree Chic is my own company, so if you buy anything here my family will eat more organic vegetables.

Just in case anyone actually thought this post would contain skincare tips for baby soft skin: use natural soap or cleanser morning and night, make your own toner or try witch hazel, and finally moisturize.

Toner Recipes to try

Toner for oily or acne prone skin:

  • 3/4 cup steeped green tea
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (store in refrigerator upto 10 days)

or

  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3/4 cup filtered water
  • 5-10 drops of lavender or frankincense essential oil

Toner for Sensitive Skin

  • 1/2 cup dried rose buds
  • hot filtered water (steep 1-2 hours, store in refrigerator 1 week)

Toner for dry skin

  • add a few drops of geranium essential oil to the rose water, shake before spritzing.
